E-bay Comic Book Scam Tips - Beware!

E-Bay Scams - The Latest and Greatest

There are several E-bay scams making their rounds on the Internet. The latest craze seems to be spoofing or phishing. This is sending an e-mail that looks official but when you click on a link, actually redirects you to a criminal site, where your information is then stolen. I thought I had seen all of the variations until I received three, yes three, bogus e-mails after an auction I was bidding on closed.

The day after the auction closed (I wasn't the high bidder), I received a "second chance offer." This is E-bay's system to allow the seller to offer the item to a lower bidder in case the winner doesn't pay. I inspected the e-mail and it looked suspicious. The links were to other pages outside of E-bay. So what did I do?

I did what you need to do if this happens to you. I notified E-bay and gave them the text of the messages. If you ever have a problem or receive an e-mail you think may be fake, click here for the link.

I received a reply from E-bay three days later verifying that the e-mails were fraudulent. E-bay has several good tips on how to protect yourself, and you can find them here.

Be careful out there, and remember, if it looks too good to be true - it is! Always inspect your e-mail and make sure the links are not to websites outside of E-bay.
