CGC Pre-Screening
If you are looking to save some money on CGC submissions you owe it to yourself to look at using their pre-screening service.
CGC requires a minimum submission of 50 comics to use the service. You can set any grade level you would like up to 9.8, and they will fully grade the comics that make the grade, and charge a small fee for those that don’t. If you are submitting modern comics the total fee will be about $375 including return shipping if half your books pass.
This service works especially well with modern comics. Overall you save a little money on the grading fee and ensure you get high enough grades on your comics (think 9.8) to make slabbing worth the investment.
What is CGC?
You will see the term CGC a lot on this site, so what is it?
CGC is an abbreviation for Certified Guaranty Company. They are an independent company that inspects, grades and encapsulates comic books in a hard plastic holder.
CGC gives comic books a grade based on a 10 point scale. They also conduct a restoration check. Once these two steps are complete the encapsulate the comic book in a tamper proof plastic holder with the title and grade at the top.
The benefits of the service include the restoration check, the protective holder, and most importantly an impartial grading level that buyers and sellers can agree on.
